Superintendent Dr. David J. Peterson's September Letter

Dear Scottsdale Unified School District Family,

The 2014-15 school year is off to a great start! It is hard to believe that we are already done with our first month of school. During the first few days of school, I was able to visit every school in the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD). Great things are going on in our classrooms – thank you all for a positive start to the new school year. Additionally, members of my Leadership Team visited campuses to help ensure an excellent beginning. It is great to see everyone working together on behalf of students.
See the September Letter.

On Wednesday, October 29th Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) will be offering the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to sophomores and juniors at all five SUSD high schools during the school day.

Sophomores in SUSD high schools will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT at no cost to parents. “By offering the PSAT/NMSQT to all sophomores at no cost, it will provide parents, students and the schools with useful information to identify areas that require more attention for post-secondary goals,” said Dr. Mitch von Gnechten, executive director of Secondary Schools. “The results of the test will help our students set goals for the next two years and will help increase college and career readiness.” See PSAT/NMSQT

SUSD Placed in the College Board’s 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll for Significant Gains in Advanced Placement ®Access and Student Performance

Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) was recognized as one of two districts in Arizona and one of 477 school districts nationwide being honored by the College Board with placement on the 4th Annual Advanced Placement® (AP®) District Honor Roll. This distinction is for increasing access to AP® course work while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher on AP® exams.
“We do a great job of preparing our students for post-secondary education. This recognition could not have been achieved without the dedication and hard work of our AP® teachers, principals, administrators and students. Our AP® students are engaged and challenged with this rigorous coursework and it really shows. I am very proud that our District has received this honor from the College Board,” said Superintendent Dr. David J. Peterson. See 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll
